chapter 36, 37 and 38

chapter 36: Pip becomes 23 and and has come of age. Mr. Jaggers calls him and gives him an annual salary. This salary is still lower than his debt. He still believes that Miss. H is his secret benefactor but Mr. Jaggers refuses to tell him. Pip wants to help Herbert but Wemmick tells him that it is more useful to throw money off a bridge.

chapter 37: Pip begins to invest money on Herbert with the help of Wemmick. He really does not want Herbert to know that he is the one investing in him. They find a merchant in need of a partner and Pip buys a partnership with him.

chapter 38: Pip and Estella start to spend alot of time with each other and decide to visit Miss. H. Estella gets into an argument with her over who loves. This is the first time that Estella actually questioned Miss H. After the argument Pip cannot sleep in the Satis house as he is having nightmares of her. He gets up and can see Miss. H walking around the house making a low crying sound.

Chapter 34 and 35

Chapter xxxiv: pip and Herbert have a conversation on how Herbert may be able to get capital. Pip and Herbert have been taking a lot of money to buy things for there house and everyday seem to fall further apart and bored. They count there debt in round numbers. They then receive a letter saying Mrs. Joe had died and that they wanted Pip to go to London.

Chapter xxxv: Pip is quite surprised that he misses his sister as much as he did. He is haunted by the image of her sitting in her chair. Pip argues with Biddy but then agrees to come and visit more often. He tells Joe and leaves.

`Good-bye, dear Joe! No, don’t wipe it off for God’s sake, give me your blackened hand! I shall be down soon, and often.’

Chapter 32 and 33 Estella visits

Chapter xxxii: pip gets a note from Estella telling him to meet her at the London train station. Pip arrives very early and meets Wemmick. We kick gives him a tour of Newgate prison where he feels oddly at home. He is introduced to man whom is about to be executed but Wemmick talks to him ask if normal.

Xxxiii: Pip meets Estella and thinks she looks more beautiful than ever. They get a private room at a place which seems to be doing badly. Estella tells Pip she is going to live in Richmond with a women. Pip he takes a coach back to the Pockets house.

Chapter 29, 30 and 31 Denmark

Chapter xxviv: When Pip arrives at Satis house he encounters Orlick who works at miss H as a porter. Pip sees Estella and thinks she has grown even more beautiful. Even with his wealth he feels low. Miss H still encourages Pip to love Estella. They have dinner with Mr. Jagger’s.

Chapter xxx: Pip tells Jagger’s that Orlick is a bad man. Jagger’s fires him which may build up the hate between Orlick and the family. Pip goes back to London where Herbert talks about gaining capital. Pip finds out that Herbert loves a women named Clara but is too poor to marry. Pip proposes they go to Denmark in quest of Wopsle.

Chapter xxxi: While in Denmark they watch a bad play of Hamlet and meet up with Mr. Wopsle.

Great expectations chapter 27, 28 joe visits

Chapter xxvii: Biddy sends a letter to Pip saying Joe is coming to London and would like to visit. When they meet it is very awkward and Pip still treats him badly. Joke tells him Estella is in London.
“Life is made of many partings”

Chapter xxviii: Pip wants to take the first coach to London to see Joe and Estella. He is forced to share the coach with convicts. One of which is the man with the file. He does not recognise Pip. He talks about how Pips Concivct sent him the money. Pip gets off as soon as he can. Looking at a newspaper he sees pumblechook is taking credit for Pips rise.
