In chapter 10 Pip goes to the Jolly Bargeman to meet Joe. He sees Joe speaking to someone who he does not know with Mr. Wopsle. Joe names but we are not told his name. He gives him a shilling wrapped in paper and then they leave. When they get home They check the shilling as they believe it is fake.”A bad un I’ll be bound, or he wouldn’t have given it to him” They check it and is real. But not only that. It is wrapped in two pound notes. Joe takes it to the Jolly Bargemen and the man is not there. They keep it safe under a pot.
